Itchy ears

Hi

I wear aids in both ears and experience very itchy ears - probably as a consequence. Any recommendations to alleviate?

Here's what I do to try to resolve:

  • Clean my moulds weekly with warm water.
  • Wipe my moulds nightly with antiseptic wipe.
  • My GP will prescribe otomize ear drops. This stops the itchyness, but it soon returns after treatment finished.
  • When not using otomize I may try olive oil. This soothes, but can lead to dead skin and wax blocking my ears.

I don't recall having this trouble when my moulds also had a secondary hole in them - giving ventilation. My NHS audiologist has said I can no longer have this secondary hole due to the degree of my hearing loss.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi BitDBill,

    Thank you for your post.

You can ask your audiologist to change the material that the moulds are made from. There are many different non-allergenic mould materials, so if you react to one they can always try a different material. Some mould manufacturers are even Nano coating their moulds now.

    Kind regards
