Hello. I am seeking advice on replacing hearing aids on a regular basis. My mother suffers from dementia and loses her hearing aids constantly. Sometimes we find them, often not. I was getting a very good replacement service from Spec Savers, Middlesbrough. But now i have been informed that the NHS will not pay to replace lost hearing aids and the cost will be £60+ each for future aids. This is the basic behind the ear model. Thanks in advance. A
Thank you for your post.
Unfortunately, the cost of replacement aids is decided at the discretion of each dispenser and it is common for a cost to be in place when lost or damaged. You may want to speak with a different hospital, that your Mother could attend, to see what their procedure would be on replacement aids. Some may take your Mothers dementia into consideration when discussing their replacement policy.
You may also want to look into something like Hearing Aid clips to see if they would help to prevent the hearing aids from being lost. You can see an example of the clips here- https://www.connevans.co.uk/product/6930425/3B110106/Hearing-aid-retention-cord--30cm--pair-and-collar-clip
