I'm hoping that someone can help. My teenage daughter has recently suffered complete loss of hearing in her left ear (having already been diagnosed with low frequency hearing loss in both ears). She has now (grudgingly) agreed to wear her hearing aids more. She loves going to the cinema and was very excited that the audiologist has put a T-loop programme on her hearing aids. I've contacted my local cinemas and they either have no idea what I'm asking about or claim they don't have any facility to connect hearing aids via any kind of loop. Is there any information on which cinemas have facility and exactly what I need to be asking? I'm amazed at the number of showings with subtitles, but surely it would be helpful if they had subtitles and connected to hearing aids?
I do have to say that if one more person tells me that they provide Audio Description for the deaf, I might just lose it.
Just in case anyone else needs to know, Picturehouse cinemas have very clear information on their website. Checkout https://www.picturehouses.com/cinema/info/The_Little#disabled-access for example. We went to Crouch End which states that they have hearing loops in all auditoria and the one we used did have a hearing loop and now my daughter wants to go there all the time. Thank you Picturehouse for providing clear information and for providing a T-loop! Please note that with Picturehouse each cinema will have different information, but all the ones I've looked at gave clear concise details. Other cinemas should really take note as to how to present access information (and what Audio Description is for!!!)
Many thanks for the replies.
I received this from Cineworld:
I'm surprised that a chain cinema wouldn't have hearing loops, maybe you need to speak to a manager rather than whoever happens to pick up the phone or maybe try contacting online? Some larger companies are very good at responding to social media as it's out there for all to see! I've not been to the cinema since I got my aid but to be honest I only have a mild hearing loss so most films are more than loud enough for me to be able keep up with what's going on anyway!
Hi try www.yourlocalcinema.com for listings.
